I wanted to take a minute to make a shout out to Jon who I met briefly at Fight Gone Bad at Bayou City this past Saturday. Much to my amazement Jon approached me and mentioned this blog and that he recognized me and had been following the blog. That was a pretty awesome feeling. So, thanks Jon, nice to meet you. Take a minute and make a post on here!
Also, on a side note, I have started an additional blog called:
Gibson Garage Gym
This blog covers less of the day to day WOD type stuff (We do that here) and more about diet, general thoughts and news about what's up and coming for the Gibsons.

Hey Shane - Jon here - it was a pleasure to briefly chat with you last Sat at FGB, and thanks for the shout out on the blog! If I am not mistaken I think I read that you will be competing in the Oktoberfest Obliteration 10/10. I will be there as well and will be sure to say hello if our paths cross.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure how I stumbled on this blog, but I do enjoy following it. I have been very impressed with the times and efforts posted here, and that serves as a great source of motivation. I am pretty much a "ham and egger", training in isolation in either my garage or local Y, and not connected formally to the CF community in any way. Seeing these kinds of results gives me something to shoot for and is very inspiring. I look fwd to following your progress (and hopefully closing the gap on some of these times!), and following the new blog mentioned in this post as well.
FGB was awesome. That was my second trip to a CF facility (I was a DNF at the CFH Summer Challenge - don't ask how weak I am at deadlifts), and this was my first time to do FGB as rx'd - my Y has a C2 rower but only a 15# med ball, and things are so spread out I get more rest than designed when doing it there. Anyway my goal was 300 and I ended up at 293. Could have been worse but felt I left a little in the tank.
I am looking fwd to the upcoming competition where my stated goal is to not totally humiliate myself - no hopes of placing well as I am pushing 36 and have average ability at best, will quite literally be a competition with myself. I have been training pretty hard - I saw the weights listed as 135/155 so lots of thrusters, squat cleans, ovhd squats mixed in with main site WODS to get ready. This AM I did following:
5 rounds for time
4 squat clean at 185#
50 double unders
15 KTEs
Didn't time just tried to go all out, that is a lot of weight for me on cleans. We will see how it goes a week from Sat.
Anyway, I really enjoy the blog and wish you luck and success in your training.
Take care,
Jon
Great to hear from you Jon. I will have to have you over to the house for a WOD sometime. I have a pretty decent setup there. Nice friggin job on 293 reps for FGB. You got me beat there, I'll get ya' next time!
ReplyDeleteI'll see you at the Ocktoberfest competition. Keep working hard on your training, anything is possible.
